Professor Miika T. Nieminen (MIPT) has received a funding of 1 018 000 euros from Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation for the project “Structure-specific MRI characterization of articular cartilage in osteoarthritis.

Significant EU funding to MIPT Research Unit

Associate Professor Simo Saarakkala together with the Postdoctoral Fellow Gabriela Lorite from Microelectronics Research Unit (MIC), University of Oulu, have together received 1.1 million euros from EU Research and Innovation Programme Horizon 2020 for joint diseases research project MIRACLE.

Stefan Zbyn PhD (MIPT) has received a funding from Medical Research Center Oulu for the research project “Implementation and validation of new MR imaging contrast for early detection of osteoarthritis”.

Finnish Cultural Foundation Grant for M.Ed. (music) Mari Leppävuori

PhD student Mari Leppävuori (CREMA, MIPT) has received a funding of 20.000€ from North Ostrobothnia Regional Fund / Eeva, Esko and Timo Laapas Fund for PhD thesis on physiological and acoustic features of the human voice. 

Academy of Finland Postdoctoral Researcher and Academy Research Fellow funding

MIPT researcher Lassi Rieppo, Ph.D., received a 3-year Academy of Finland Postdoctoral Researcher funding (267 620 €) for a project “Quantum cascade laser infrared spectroscopic tool for assessment of the quality of articular cartilage“. MIPT is the host institution of this project.

MIPT researcher Jukka Hirvasniemi, Ph.D., received a 3-year Academy of Finland Postdoctoral Researcher funding (252 300 €) for a project “Automated analysis of X-ray and magnetic resonance image features in prediction and diagnosis of osteoarthritis“. The host institution of this project is the Center for Machine Vision and Signal Analysis, University of Oulu, but the project will be conducted in a close collaboration with MIPT.

MIPT researcher Heikki Nieminen, Ph.D., received a 5-year Academy of Finland Research Fellow funding (434 485 €) for a project “Ultrasound-enhanced fine-needle biopsy (USeFNB): sound-tissue –interactions“. The host institution of this project is University of Helsinki.
